FAQ
Q: What effect does the FK99 water filter have on TDS/PPM in water?
A: TDS is not a professional method for measuring water quality. TDS stands for total dissolved solids. For example, if you add a very small amount of salt (NaCl) to the water and measure the TDS level, you will find that the result is significantly too high. The same applies if your water is rich in minerals. Here, too, the TDS level will be very high.
The FK99 doesn't remove minerals from water, only heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and over 70–80 volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and largely removes chlorine from water. This is why the TDS value isn't as low as expected.
The TDS measurement method is commonly used in reverse osmosis systems because the RO filtration system also removes minerals from the water. If an RO membrane isn't performing well, the TDS will be relatively high. And if the TDS gets significantly higher, it's time to replace the RO membrane.
Therefore, please do not use TDS to test water other than the reverse osmosis system, as the result is meaningless.
Q: How often should the FK99 filter cartridges be replaced?
A: Regarding the lifespan of the SK99 filter cartridge, we recommend changing the internal filter every 12 months. Please note that the lifespan depends on the water quality and daily usage. All flow rate information on the sticker is based on laboratory tests and the water supplied. The more often you change the filter, the better your water will be.
Q: Why can't a water filter be used for well water?
A: This filter should be used with municipally treated drinking water or water that has been properly disinfected prior to use. The water filter cartridge is made of 0.5 micron activated carbon (premium quality), which can easily become clogged with dirt or debris from the well.
Q: How do I connect the FK99 filter system to the refrigerator/ice maker?
