FAQ
Q: What effect does the SK99 water filter have on TDS/PPM in water?
ANote: TDS is not a professional method for testing water quality. TDS stands for total dissolved solids. For example, if you add a very small amount of salt (NaCl) to the water and test the TDS level, you will find that the result is dramatically high. The same is true if your water is full of minerals. Even then, the TDS level will be very high.
SK99 doesn't remove minerals from water, only heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and over 70–80 VOCs, and largely removes chlorine from water. This is why the TDS reading you get isn't as low as expected.
The TDS measurement method is commonly used in reverse osmosis systems because the RO filtration system also removes minerals from the water. If an RO membrane isn't performing well, the TDS will be relatively high. And if the TDS gets significantly higher, it's time to replace the RO membrane.
Therefore, please do not use TDS to test water other than the reverse osmosis system, as the result is meaningless.
Q: How often should the SK99 filter cartridges be replaced?
A: Regarding the lifespan of the SK99 filter cartridge, we recommend replacing the 1st stage every 3-6 months, the 2nd stage every 8-12 months, and the 3rd stage every 12-18 months. Please note that the lifespan depends on your water quality and daily usage. All flow capacity specifications listed on the sticker are based on actual laboratory tests and the supplied water.
Q: Why can't a water filter be used for well water?
AThis filter should be used with municipally treated drinking water or water that has been properly disinfected prior to use. The water filter cartridge is made of 0.5 micron carbon (premium quality), which is easily clogged by dirt or debris from a well.
Q: How do I connect the SK99 filter system to the refrigerator/ice maker?
